The Vote

It's been a bit of a struggle to keep my little corner of the web here focused on what I feel it is supposed to be...which is my little spot to journal about my daily life in a houseful of boys.

I've been struggling with whether or not to bring up my political views and in the end, it was my quiet morning times with just me and God that helped me to realize that this isn't the place.

I'm thinking this election...and WHY I feel so passionate about it, is probably somewhat of an age thing.  I'm old enough this time around to 'get' it.  To feel the effects of war.  And barrel prices.  And whether our parents retirement money is secure and my home loan is safe and my husband will have a paycheck.  I am also at an age where I really wonder if anyone who moves into that big white house can truly make change even if they wanted to...I mean, I did just watch that Jimmy Stewart movie and a Jimmy Stewart movie wouldn't lie about politics.  Right?

(and to my boys, who sometimes read this....please know our home is safe and so is daddy's job.)

I am also thinking that I am at a point in my life where it is starting to worry me for 'for them'...for MY children.  And for someday, their children.

I have watched close friends of mine have heated discussions over candidates.  I have seen the signs everywhere and heard the messages on my machine and gotten the 50 bazillion ads in the mail.

And through it all, I have chosen to be silent.

Which, for me, is a stretch.

I have, I should say, chosen to be silent in many ways, but not in others.  I have listened.  I have researched my candidates.  I have been volunteering (quietly) at my local headquarters.  I have stapled.  I have mailed.  I have even manned a few phones, which gave me a whole new light on how I handle tele-marketers.  And tomorrow, I will be working for a short time at my local polling place.

Tomorrow, I am going to vote.  I am voting my conscience and then praying for whomever gets elected that they are blessed with wisdom and perseverance and strength.

Cuz they are going to need it.

Please vote, too.

So, I will now put my little soap box away and once again go back to writing about those kids that I love so much and that guy that I really, really like...whom I am blessed to share this journey with.

Who is on his way to vote right now.

  1. I can't believe it! You mean you won't say, so you voted for Chuck Norris???? :)

  2. 1 Tim 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties {and} prayers, petitions {and} thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,
1 Tim 2:2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
1 Tim 2:3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

  3. um my dad used to often say that he would be voting NO on Proposition President . Cracked me up.
