Sometimes, when things seem a little out of control (as in the biggest nerf war of all times is happening inside your 1200 sq ft house and you just don't think you can take it anymore), you have to do something drastic.
Like make homemade chocolate pudding.
Not the kind from the box (which I think is the only kind I have ever had) but the real, honest to goodness stuff.
Definitely not cheap to make, especially when you double the recipe like I did (hello? 12 egg yolks!) but the result was unanimous.
Mom rocks.

This morning with one son away at college, one son away in the desert having a basketball training session with college players, and one in Sunday school, that guy that I like so much and I snuck off to corner bakery for a bowl of oatmeal and a game of scrabble on his iPad.
It's as close to a vacation as we're going to get.

After church and after attempting to eat chili dogs in the car, the baby of the family got a new pair of shoes.
Size 9.5 shoes. The 12 yr old has gone up 3 sizes since the beginning of the school year and now has bigger feet than his dad.
Crazy. And expensive; hence, the no vacation as stated above.
And then home in time to stuff a 22 pound bird and stick it in the oven.
I was thinking we needed to celebrate our own little thanksgiving...it's been a challenging few weeks but we're emerging from the fog and stepping into the sun.
Slowly.
The meal itself really isn't a hard meal to make...I kept it simple and made stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, gravy, and canned jelly cranberry sauce (love that stuff) along with the turkey.
Serve it as the sun just begins to set and watch the men-folk gorge themselves.
The best part? Another whole meal tucked in the freezer for another night.
I feel recharged and ready for the week to begin...it was the perfect balance of outside activities and lounging at home.
How about you...how was YOUR weekend?
My weekend was delightful. On Saturday I went to a women's retreat day at a nearby resort. The theme was Peace Be Still, and I enjoyed a speaker, time with church friends, a fancy buffet lunch, and quiet time outside in the 80 degree sunshine. I worked on letting some of the job-search stress go as I dwelled on Jeremiah 29:11 and following.
ReplyDeleteOn Sunday I went to church and then sat outside reading my new Diane Mott Davidson culinary mystery in the 85 degree sunshine. I got up and went for a walk/jog in the sunshine and finally headed off to stock up on groceries when the sun went away. I came home with some sangria, bread, sausage, cheese, and fruit for a summery dinner.
It is that "teaser" weather that shows up every once in awhile during the spring, and I was so glad it came on the weekend. I hear we might even get some more snowflakes next weekend (boo!), but I know that summer can't be too far away now.
I love this! Just love it. From vacation to shoes...love! I went to ABQ for a surprise trip, found out Wed. Was invited to a bday party, couldn't make it...voila, on Wed. a friend said, "here's my acct number and password, I have a free ticket put your name on one and come home for the surprise party Saturday night." And I did...and....I'm still crying good tears as a result of being sad to leave. Oh dear!
