Ash Wednesday

I went to church today at noon all by myself and I realized as I was sitting there that I don't usually go to church all by myself.

It was so quiet and I must say, I liked it.

What else do I like?

Lent.

Scratch that. I love Lent.

All of it. The traditions my church has...celebrating Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. The chance for renewal and repentance and hope. The excitement of the resurrection.

Love.

Other highlights of today:

  • 80 degrees.
  • a little nap in the sunshine
  • the broken door on my car is now not broken?
  • hearing 'Open Arms' by Journey TWICE in the car
  • a really super great conversation with my favorite 17 year old about prayer
  • finding a hidden box of macadamia caramel corn in the pantry

  1. Ditto re: Lent, Michele! I think you know Bob & I were both 'brought up Lutheran' - since birth, baptism, confirmation, marriage, first son's baptism, second son's baptism & then...we left! to become 'world christians', I guess. But we always search out Ash Wednesday services: this year an Anglican church a couple blocks away, with a charming Irish Rev. who goes by 'Charlie'.I get to practice their unused-for-years pipe organ on fridays: on which I've offered to teach his daughter, free...
