Hot Weather

We started watching a new to us show (Grimm) and it has me completely freaked out.  Problem is...it's a really good show.  On the flip side...I'm toooo skeered to go to the bathroom by myself in the middle of the night.

Weirdo.

For the first time this summer, warm temps have hit...we've finally hit the 90's. I've waited and waited for it to happen and now I am ready for Fall.  Chilly nights, a sweater in the garden, beef stew in the oven.

Oh wait.  That was last week.

I do think it took wandering around Pier 1 for me to realize that Autumn is just around the corner and it's not the weather I am ready for, but the schedule.  I cannot believe I am even saying that...but with the Olympics on, there has been very little sleep happening around these parts.  So I guess I am just ready for normal bedtimes and normal wake up times...which with a houseful of older boys who stay up all night and sleep all day, I'm not sure that will change much anytime soon.

The hot weather has caused our tomato plants to all ripen at once and that is one thing I don't think I will ever tire of...lots and lots of warm from the vine tomatoes.

We've been eating them non stop and no one has complained yet...though not all my houseful is appreciate of panzanella the way that guy that I like so much and I are.

Stale bread, tomatoes, cukes, and peppers all tossed with an italian vinaigrette.  Probably one of my favorite things in the world.

I love our local Italian market, where they always ask how my boys are doing when I start my order with 'two pounds of Italian turkey, please'.  Every week when all three are home,  I order 4 pounds of lunch meats...add that to the 8 gallons of milk, 4 loaves of bread, 2 pounds of bacon and 3 dozen eggs. (did I mention that this is all for a week?  ONE WEEK?????)

Pigs.  All of them.

But my market is tiny and their Italian cookies are ah-mazing...and I always find a cookie or two or three in my bag when I leave.

Mom's deserve a treat, too.

Work is beginning to cross my mind...every once in awhile I glance at my work phone and cringe when I see that there are 28 voicemails on it, but at the same time I am ready to start fresh this year.  I have a big meeting on Thursday and will then find out exactly what my job will entail.

Is summer really ending?

I did a lovely 5 mile hike this morning with a girlfriend...a sweaty 5 mile hike in the hot weather.  My goal for today is to catch up on the laundry and then I have a committee meeting at the university tonight.

Other than that?

More late night Olympics!

  1. So, how was the earthquake today???? I've also been watching the Olympics late at night, and not getting up in the morning. But, only 2 weeks, and I'll be back at school working.

  2. I love the "extrack"!
I am staying home this year!!! No teaching for me, at least not every day. I have volunteered to sub at my former school and at another that a friend is now directing. But still sad that summer is already ending because I will miss the boys when they are at school.
Oh! And now because of your post I have to make some cookies!
