If I Knew Then...

I was in the attic looking for my birth certificate and came across an old christmas letter I had written and sent out years and years ago.

15 years ago, back when I was a perfect mum.

My oldest boys were 5 and 1 and the idea of a 3rd was not yet even a blip on the radar. We lived in Colorado and had a rather simple life...I was a stay-at-home mom and M was working and finishing up his doctorate.

Two things stuck out to me as I reread that letter.

1. I was naive.

I ended with 'I love being a mommy!!!' I still do, but just the fact that I ended that statement with not one, not two, BUT THREE exclamation points screams out that I hadn't yet raised a teenager.

Just sayin'.

2. I was clairvoyant.

I wrote that my then youngest (who is now a teen) was 'cute as a button but he has a naughty streak.'

Sigh.

No Christmas letter this year but if I did it would be something like this:

Dear everyone,

Please pray for us.

We are raising 3 sons who all (when the oldest comes home from college) share a bathroom. The same one the guests use when they visit our little house.

Thank you,

M and M

Back to hiding out at Corner Bakery, where I am supposed to be working on paperwork.

I highly recommend the california grille sandwich and the roasted corn chowder, with a Fresca on the side...just in case you were wondering.

  1. Seriously...you got some serious mojo going on with posts this week. Or maybe it's just that they're the words I needed to read and your mojo is the same as always-off the charts-thankyouverymuch.

Too fun because I was a Corner Bakery customer today too. Much needed deliciousness. :D

  2. You don't need to write a Christmas letter when you have your wonderful blog! Of course, I'm the one who hasn't sent out a Christmas letter in years...not since I went back to school for my teaching certificate. I need to reclaim every little bit of time I can. I also heard on the radio that Christmas cards and letters are waaaay down in recent years and are waaaay down again this year. The news report said that people are economizing (both money and time). I have seen friends write a Christmas letter and post it as a Facebook note...no envelopes or postage needed!
