A Few Favs

A few of my favorites:

My little house on my little street with the morning sunlight pouring in through the windows.

In n Out, eaten in the car on the way home from church.

Yummy.

The lake down the street from my house, which I am blessed to drive by every day that I get into my car.

Other favorites?

A toffee mocha from Starbucks.
House cleaners.
Valentine in the morning on 104.3.
Hummus.
Gain laundry detergent, found on sale.
Clogs.
Fall Break...beginning tomorrow.

What are yours?

The Ball

Posts without pictures are so not fun.

But this is going to be a post without pictures because my camera cord is missing.

Again.

And if I had my camera cord I would show you all the great pictures I took last night at the ball.

Yep...ball, as in Cinderella and the ball.

There's a new university president and for his inauguration we got all dressed up in our very, very finest and laughed with great friends and ate yummy food and danced the night away.

It was so. much. fun.

And I would like to publicly apologize to that guy that I like so much for telling him it would not be fun and that I didn't want to go in the days (ok...maybe weeks) leading up to it and quite possibly I was just a little peeved about the whole thing.

You were right.

(and I'm sorry.)

Friday Night

Our little house on our little street is slowly becoming autumn-ized.

I like that.

=0)

Tonight that guy that I like so much made his famous pasta for supper while I sat at the counter and watched, talked with the boys and paying a couple of bills online.

Minus paying the bills part, it was the perfect end to a really long week.

Next week I am planning on finding my rhythm and actually only working the hours I am paid to work. Also next week there are two eye doctor appointments followed by two dental appointments which makes for extremely happy boys...but I am not going to tell them quite yet.

I don't want their joy to ruin my weekend.

Although our dentist does give out fresh baked cookies after your visit, which aside from being sick and wrong is a brilliant marketing tool...eat a cookie and they are sure to have your return business either with a cavity or just to get a warm, gooey cookie.

(and yeah...I think it's kinda weird, but he is a really good dentist.)

=0)

The grand plan for tonight is to continue reading Harry Potter...book 7. And maybe eat some pear tart.

That's about it.

Sigh.

Early Mornings

The time, on the right, is AM.

6:44 am.

And at 6:44am I have been heading out of my cozy and warm and DRY little house on my little street and driving to various intersections around the county to train multiple individuals how to be crossing guards.

And let me just say that anyone who even shows up in the pouring rain to train to be a crossing guard is a saint.

=0)

The rains came to southern CA and there was, for the most part, much rejoicing.

I for one will not forget for a long, long time that a few mornings ago I woke up before the alarm went off and laid in bed listening to rain fall.

Glorious. Simply glorious.

All Clear

We've gone from temps in the triple digits to cold and rainy.

Crazy.

(but I like it...)

I've discovered the most amazing thing at Starbucks (which I normally don't like all that much...too expensive!)...a toffee mocha.

Seriously?

Toffee mocha?

(I've had 3 since last Thursday...pretty sure there are more to come. Yum! And yes, I always say my name is Alex because it irks me that no one spells my name correctly...)

(one of these was for one of my sons...)

This morning I worked early, training 3 more people to be crossing guards while it rained. Definitely not up there in my favorite things to do, but then again I don't do it very often so I have no right to complain.

But I'm kinda in a complainy mood.

Sigh.

I then picked up Alex from school and we drove all the way to Huntington Beach (versus our normal Newport Beach) to see the special knee doctor who treats me rudely, which makes me feel tense.

The good news? Cleared for limited play.

The bad news? He couldn't define limited play other than to say he should stop before he re-injures himself.

The good news? I fired question after question after question at him until I felt satisfied with his answer.

The bad news? Well...there really wasn't any. We go back in a month to discuss further injections. (eww...) Oh...and the fact that his office overlooks a pet cemetary. (double eww...)

Delivered Alex back to school and met a girlfriend for the new movie with Sigourney Weaver and Jamie Lee Curtis...which was cute and for the life of me I cannot remember the name. I also feasted on popcorn and milk duds and a diet coke for lunch.

I'm also working on some really super cute and fun new jewelry things...preview to come soon!

Not Everyone Can Sport That

Crazy hair day in 7th grade rocks.

And rolls.

I love this kid and his free spirit.

Mandatory Date Night

The temps here continue to hover around 100, which in turn has me hovering around insanity.

It's either the heat or the fact that I have been listening to The Star Spangled Banner played on the trumpet in the back of the house for the last 2 weeks.

Just kidding. Sort of.

=0)

But seriously, if we are going to be stuck in a little house with (gasp) the windows closed because the AC is on, can't the band teacher at least assign something...ummm...playable????

It all came to a head yesterday afternoon when I just couldn't take it anymore.

So I called Maggiano's and begged for a reservation. For reals. Begged. When the poor gal at the reservation desk said, "I'm sorry, we're full" I went into crisis mode.

"Please. You don't understand. I've been listening to a 16 year old who just found out he isn't cleared to play basketball yet and it's all MY fault AND to a 12 year old playing the gosh darn STAR SPANGLED BANNER OVER AND OVER AND OVER and I am HOT...and not hot in the attractive way but hot in the way that a 40 somethin' year old woman can only understand and I NEED A RESERVATION. PLEASE!!"

And I just may have had a little sob escape from my mouth.

Sadly, I did. Yep. I had a meltdown on the phone.

Call me crazy, but I suddenly had a 6:30pm reservation for two.

So on a rather normal Tuesday evening, that guy that I like so much and I found ourselves sharing a bottle of vino rosso.

And it's hard to see...but I really likey likey these monogrammed glasses.

Lots.

So, if you have never dined (or met, for that matter) that guy that I like so much then you don't know that he befriends every single wait person we have at every single restaurant.

But now you know.

And I am totally serious about this. So within 5 minutes of us being there, we knew all about Kristy and her life story. And we liked her. A lot.

And since we sat there for almost 3 hours...well, we heard lots about her life.

=0)
All thru the evening she kept bringing us food. Food we didn't order but ate and ate and ate.

And then the kitchen made us a Happy Date Night dessert, complete with candles.

Love.
Today, all is well in my little world.

Alex has an MRI on Friday and a follow-up on Monday, so prayers that we get a better report than 2 weeks ago would be great...though he is in a much better place right now. Emotionally, that is. It's just hard. =0(

Brian is playing, as I type, the Star Spangled Banner and I have decided to just sing along with him over and over and over. We make a good team.

It's still hot, but oh well. Could be worse.
