Repairs

We've been having an issue for the past two years (we're slow to take care of things round these parts) involving our smoke alarm.

Mainly that it goes off every. single. time I cook.

So annoying.

The reason being is that there used to be a wall separating our kitchen and family room (remember?) and now we don't.

Because our little house is well...little, we now had a smoke detector in the kitchen.

But now we don't.

(and FYI...we still have other smoke detectors. promise.)

Yesterday in between basketball games, we had the most perfect lunch ever.

Grilled cheese and tomato soup.

Is there anything better? I think not...

Remember yesterday when I said I fixed the dryer?

It's not working again and the repairman is on his way.

Broken dryer plus a houseful of boys equals a whiney mama.

Praying it's little.

And cheap.

My House

The kitchen is a mess.

The bedroom is a mess.

BUT...I did fix the dryer today.
And went to two basketball games.
And made pasta for supper.

So I did accomplish something...right?

Saturday

Rain was in the forecast for today and although no drops fell, the temperatures did.

Whew.

We even got big, fluffy, dark clouds.

=0)

The four of us who live in this little house full time were in four different places almost all of today, but now we are all together for the evening.

Lots of males on a Saturday night means one thing...MEAT.

Steak, baked potatoes and spinach...it's what's for dinner.

It's the little things, you know?

A Case Of The What If's

What if I couldn't drive to the beach in November?

What if the doctors had been right when they said we would never have children?

What if this man child of ours had normal wisdom teeth rather than one that is so funky it can't be removed for fear of a forever numb lip?

(which for a trumpet player is a pretty big deal...)
What if autumn looked different than this?
What if following a really stressful day I didn't have a guy that I like so much who without a second thought took us out for supper and ordered a big 'ole beer for me?
What if the baby shrub wasn't so squeezable?
What if there was no such thing as sweet potato fries?

What if my middle son (the 6'2" one) occasionally looked AT the camera?

What if there was no such thing as family movie night and popcorn mixed with leftover halloween candy and Cheaper By The Dozen?

Do you ever wonder 'what if'?

Highs and Lows

HIGH: 5 months ago today I took this picture.
LOW: 19 months until I see it again. Not that I am counting.

HIGH: 98. In November.
LOW: 63. That's more like it.

HIGH: Our electric meter WAS read wrong and we now owe $284 less than we did last Tuesday.
LOW: The $25 ticket that was overlooked is now $584. Or warrant for arrest. I'm seriously thinking a night or two in the slammer will be less painful.

HIGH: I am feeling MUCH better.
LOW: Completely out of tea.

HIGH: Watching Matthew perform yesterday. Yowza. He must get his talent from me.
LOW: Having to tell my 12 year old that the way his 'friends' treat him is not friendly. At all.

HIGH: SpiderTech Tape. Google it. Makes Alex smile. And run. Fast.
LOW: Only 3 pieces of banana laffy taffy in the halloween bags? Really?

HIGH: Cats.
LOW: Hair balls.

HIGH: Thanksgiving...the ultimate holiday, is this month.
LOW: the fact that every store is full of Christmas.

HIGH: the house is quiet.
LOW: because it is after midnight.

HIGH: they are building a new gym down the street from my little house.
LOW: oh the guilt. gonna have to pass it every time I go to Panera.

HIGH: feeling sleepy!
LOW: feeling sleepy!

Share your high and low...pretty please!

Sniffles

This week, I am thankful for:

hot tea.
kleenex.
the hallmark channel.
ibuprofen.

Pretty much in that order.

How is your week going?

Let's Go!

It's here.

November.

And the best part of November?

Yes, once again I am going to attempt (with attempt being the key word here) to write 50,000 words (which is considered a novel) in the next 30 days.

I've got a few obstacles...a husband and three sons, a small business that is at its busiest in November, a planned vacation, and a regular school day job.

Whew.

But I'm going to try.

And I've already beat my year 2 word count, which totaled 14 (laundry detergent, shampoo, toilet paper, pasta, sugar, new shoes for Alex, call the dentist) during a year when that list was all I could handle....cuz so far, I've written an outline.

A real outline towards a novel.

It's not any good, but it's a start.

Insomnia is serving me well right now.
