How the Garden Grows

The corn is tall...

the Tuscan melon is growing...

and the first of the heirlooms were picked.

Today brings basketball practice for Alex, music camp for M and M, and a play date for Brian, though they haven't decided whose house to play at yet. I've got 2 eggs left and I'm not shopping until Friday, so something that calls for only 2 eggs will get baked. I've already spent an hour in my garden, and other than that not much is going on - except for the normal cleaning and laundry stuff.

It's a quiet summer day and I'm kinda bored.

Which reminds me of a story.

Last month we were at a party and I was cornered by a woman I know. She has 2 small children, and she asked me what I do.
Now, this is a question I get alot, especially as my boys get older.

"I'm a stay-at-home mom."

Anyone who knows me, knows how proud I am of that title. I wear it with honor. It's a decision M and I made together, and have sacrificed much for, and that I am so, so proud to be able to do.
I have very few talents, but I am a good homemaker, even though I am rarely at home, as I am mostly in my car.

Anyway, she looked at me and said, "Don't you get bored? What do you do all day, sit around and drink coffee?"
And she repeated this...not once, not twice, but three times.

She threw me for a loop.

I felt myself getting a tad bit defensive.

And then I realized that she was up nursing an infant by night and chasing a toddler by day, with a husband who works alot and a house that needs to be run. She's longing for a little boredom.
Boredom seemed so far away back then.

But I sure do appreciate it when it happens now.
