Reunion

We loaded up the car with the two sons who are blessed to be home with us for the summer and drove south to San Diego....a trip that normally takes 1 1/2 hours but took us 2 1/2 hours thanks to Saturday afternoon traffic.

Traffic? On a Saturday?

I spent my time in the car doing 2 things. One was analyzing the yellow splotch on the windshield. The other was texting my sister-in-law with things like I'm bored! and Stop ignoring me!

Both were exciting and helped pass the time.

The reason for the trip was to attend the Busch Family reunion. Turns out there are like 250 of them who are all related and all live 'round these parts.
Generations and generations of them.
And they all sprouted from these two, who had 10 children of their own, plus they raised 4 of her sisters kids after the sister passed away.

Clara here was rather strong willed and decided a church needed to be built and one was. It's still there, so we all gathered there for the reunion.
There was food. Thankfully. My sons were enticed into coming along when they heard the words 'all you can eat bbq'.

It's the little things for boys.

Food is one of them.

The highlight of the afternoon was Uncle Leonard (12 times removed) asking my sister-in-law if I was her mother.

Oh yes. He did.

Yep.

He sure did.

Still processing that one.

There were games and hymns and exhibits and some fun amongst the cousins.

=0)

All in all, a fun time...though I did go buy wrinkle cream today.

Really. I did.

  3. I bet Uncle Leonard was just picking up on your extra strong "mom" vibes and it had nothing to do with looks or a little wrinkle.

The guy who owns my favorite little neighborhood grill asked me last week if I was a teacher when I stopped in for lunch. He said, "You look like a teacher, someone who would teach the little kids." I don't dress like Ms. Frizzle (you know, Magic School bus?), but do I really send off that strong of a teacher vibe? Or was it a lucky guess since I only come for lunches in the summer and he's chatted me up before?

  4. Joanna,
Don't let Michele live this one down! Maybe she does have lots of wrinkles? Or maybe the old guy has lost his sense of reality. :-)
