Hunting Food Trucks

Another day, another food truck.

Seriously Houston, we have a problem.

=0)

Today at my local car wash we heard that a food truck (that had been featured on a FoodTV show) was going to be parked there, so that guy that I like so much loaded all of us up (well...us plus the youngest shrub and my nephew) and off we went.

Oh, and I got a clean car out of the deal. Can't beat that.

Todays truck was the Kogi truck, which is known for their korean bbq short ribs.

And we all know my feelings about short ribs.

Their menu is pretty basic which I actually like.

Less thinking.

=0)
We just copied what a lot of other people were ordering...the blackjack quesadilla, the short rib taco's and the kogi sliders which are made with (wait. for. it.) short ribs.
Yummy? Yep.
Greasy. Oh yeah.
Too much food? Always.

I loved the sliders...well, one of them anyway. That guy that I like so much loved the tacos. The quesadilla (which normally I always, always, always go for a quesadilla) was too gloppy even for me...even though it tasted good.
All in all...pretty good. The Lime Truck still wins, hands down. Next week, though, we're chasing the Greek Truck...for reals!

Cuz Houston, we have a problem.

The Lime Truck

This morning I woke up to this, which is in strict violation of rules 3, 4, 5 and 6.

And I can't be sure, but I may have handled it in a way that they don't write about in all those parenting textbooks...meaning I did the overreactive crazy mother thing.

Whatever works.

=0)

Needing a breather, that guy that I like so much and I ditched all of the under age males in our house and drove near the airport to The Lime Truck.

Because we've moved on from strip mall eating joints to food trucks.
Now The Lime Truck is not any ordinary food truck. Check out this menu! These guys...two friends (one is the chef, the other is the business guy) came up with the idea and started a business.
We asked them to recommend things to us...first up, carnitas fries.
Cabernet pasta salad.
And my fav...and the reason I will be stalking this truck..truffled arancini.

These guys know what they are doing....YUM!
Today is warm, so the air is on and the house is being cleaned. Tonight I will have all my boys at home...Matthew has the night off for laundry and is officially on tour for the rest of the summer and won't be home after this.
And, just so you know, the bathroom is now cleaned.

Mama is happy.

Hump Day

There is stuff everywhere in my little house on my little street.

Everywhere.

Oh, and the dryer is making a strange sound.

Not good.

Not good at all.

What is good?

Tomatoes.

Lots and lots of tomatoes.

As for the shoes...did you know that you can custom design shoes?

Kinda cool.
What's not cool?

The temperature outside.

Two days ago it was freezing...today it is HOT.

As in the air conditioner is on hot.

I asked for it...and I got it, though I was hoping for something in between.

Random Stuff

  • While it IS July in southern California, we have yet to have weather that is out of the 70's. Global warming...I need you.

  • We have commenced Operation Revolving Door. I am basically not quite sure who is sleeping where and when and how and why. OK...maybe just the where and when part.

  • How long is it acceptable to keep holiday decorations up? Just curious.

  • I have ventured into the making of homemade hollandaise and bearnaise sauces, mainly so I can watch that guy that I like so much lick his plate when he thinks no one is looking.

  • There is a rumor going around that a Chipotle is opening in my neighborhood shopping center. I found myself adding that to my morning prayers, which is slightly disturbing.

  • We have 3 dates this week...two drum corps shows and Pageant of the Masters, the latter which we have never seen in the 14 years we have lived here.

  • In a few hours we head to the orthopedist for a post op appointment. Hoping for the go ahead today to begin rehab as well as for the insurance snafu to work itself out.

  • Read the first Harry Potter and watched the movie this week. Starting book 2 tomorrow while waiting in the summer school pick up lane.

  • Wishing that I was sleeping at 3:15am rather than blogging.

  • Bought for the first time ever and in a moment of weakness, chocolate milk in the carton. My stock as 'cool mom' has skyrocketed.

  • Have yet to change the time on my computer back to American time from Italian time.

  • Still dreaming about the amazing shish kabobs our friends made for supper the other night. Yummy. And of fragoline di bosco...wild strawberries. Double yummy.

  • sleepy....going back to bed!

I Like Pie.

In honor of my out of town sister-in-law, I made pies yesterday.

She's actually the baker in the family, but she's left town and I needed pie. Or pies.

Two pies.

On the left is sugar cream and on the right, pecan.

Two pies.

In all honesty, I figured my neighbors would be more likely to accept my gift of ginourmous, newborn baby size zucchini if accompanied by a slice (or two) of pie.

I'm smart like that.

=0)

The main excitement of yesterday was the long awaited delivery of Giugni juice. Giugni juice comes from a sandwich place near Napa. That guy that I like so much was introduced to it by one of his students and now, thanks to her, we can not eat an un-giugni juiced sandwiched ever again.

Curses.

I've tried making it on my own and it's just not the same.

Double curses.

But she's nice enough to snag some for us and now we have 5 beautiful bottles of it (and a bottle of port from her family winery) tucked away in the pantry.

Should last us until Christmas.

With everyone out of town, we're looking at a quiet weekend. A little gardening, a lotta jewelry orders, a little laundry, a lotta pie. Maybe a movie or two. Maybe some painting. Maybe just chillin'.

Maybe.

Welcome!

Well.

My little blog was chosen to be featured on Friendly Friday.

I'm honored.

=0)

So if you are new to my little corner of the web...welcome!

I am Michele.

I'm married to that guy that I like so much (who's real name in Michael) and have been for 24 years. I really do like him. Together we are raising 3 sons (20, 16 and 11) who are a collective mass of our gene pool, which can be just a tad bit frightening.

But we sure do like them alot.

=0)

I am not, however, the only female in my house as we have two 'girls', Maggie and Mollie. They might be cats, but they are my lovies.

Other things about me?

I am a Christian, saved by grace, who worships in a Lutheran church. I love flowers and cooking and gardening and champagne and reading and Italy and music and the color yellow and writing and laughing and talking and being a wife and a mom.

Oh, and I like making jewelry.

I've been blogging FOREVER. Seven and a half years now, which in blogger time is a long, long time. I write about my boys and the food I've eaten and take really bad pictures of things.

Pull up a chair and introduce yourselves. I can't wait to 'meet' you!

Cupcakes On My Brain

While blow drying my hair yesterday afternoon, a thought hit me.

Cupcakes.

Cupcakes?

Cupcakes.

There's a new show on the food network called Cupcake Wars and one of the people that was on has a store the next town over.

So cupcakes have been on my mind.

I texted that guy that I like so much, who happened to be two rooms over from me, but hey....why walk when you can text.

Me: cupcakes?

(knowing full well that he would get what I meant.)

Him: World Cup

(knowing full well that I would get what he meant.)

In other words, there was no way he was going to stop watching the Germany/Spain game to drive 15 miles for a cupcake.

So I did the next best thing and texted my neighbor.

"Would it be ridiculous to drive to Orange for a cupcake?"

Almost immediately I received a reply.

"I am running to your house now."

Gotta love girlfriends.

=0)

So off we drove to buy cupcakes, to a cute little cupcake shop that was featured on Cupcake Wars, to satisfy my sweet tooth, to make me smile and at peace, to make all things right in the world.

Cupcakes have the power to do all that.

I'd love to show you the pictures of the adorable little shop and of the adorable display and of the adorable goodies.

But I can't.

I can't because once I saw all of that I became verklempt and forgot to take any photos.

=0)

Yes, there were 6. Were.

The strawberry one was yummy.

=0)
Delicious. I didn't try the chocolate (I'm not a huge chocolate fan) but the vanilla and strawberry ones were yummy...especially for breakfast this morning with my coffee.

=0)

My houseful of boys has shrunk for the weekend. Matthew is on tour with drum corps and Alex just left for Lake Tahoe (9 hours away) with his basketball team.

So it's just us and the youngest shrub for the weekend.

I'd like to say it's going to be quiet, but well, have you met my 11 year old? He's a tad bit chatty.

I like that.

=0)

New in the shop...and on sale this weekend!
Check it out HERE!
